WHERE IN THE WORLD IS LEV NOW?
3 years ago, March of 2023, my husband Andrew and I decided to make a big move. We found ourselves on vacation in Antigua, Guatemala, visiting friends, and after 3 days here, decided to move. Within 3 months, we had a home and began our new life here. Just 2.5 hours by plane to Houston, Guatemala has welcomed us with open arms. The locals and expatriates have helped us build one of the strongest communities we have ever had. And we now have a home worthy of family and friends visiting for perfect vacations. The people, landscape, climate, food, and culture of Antigua, and other amazing areas in Guatemala, are here for us to share with people we love, and really anyone who wants to visit.
So what of my participation in weddings?
As of March 2026, I will have officiated 9 weddings in Antigua, 1 in Mexico, and 1 in belize. In the fall of 2026, I will be traveling back to New England, USA, to officiate 2 more for families I have loved since I was their rabbi in NH and MA.
Antigua, Guatemala (I have to say its in Guatemala because it is easily confused with the Caribbean island), My Antigua sits at 5000 feet above sea level and is surrounded by 3 volcanoes, one of which is active and quite mesmerizing. The weather is defined as “Eternal Spring” and is gorgeous year round. The summer is rainy season. Picture a heavy rain for an hour every afternoon and mostly sunny the rest of the day, most days. Some days there is more rain, and some days less. Antigua boasts the Tourist capital of Guatemala, and is also the wedding capital.
I would be honored to officiate for you here, and to offer suggestions of places to visit while you are here. I am also available to travel throughout the Americas and around the world.
When we talk, I am always upfront about my fee and expenses. I price my services reasonably, and have a bit of a sliding scale within reason. My goal is to be available and not a financial burden, while maintaining my dignity and recognizing my worth. I only ask that you consider that, regardless of the vacation you have planned around your wedding, it is a work trip for me and takes me away from my family and home from hours to days.
Mostly, I want to support you in having the most enjoyable and meaningful ceremony as it is a big part of this important milestone in your life and the life of your family and friends.
These are the costs to consider when hiring an officiant, rabbi or otherwise, for you home or travel wedding:
- A fee for service that includes several meetings, virtual or in person, the ceremony itself, and answering any questions or concerns that arise in preparing for your wedding.
- Travel expenses that include all travel from home back to home, such as Ubers to the airport, flights, car rentals, gas, meals, and any taxes or fees associated with travel to and from your wedding.
- Flight seating that is comfortable but not extravagant. I usually ask for “added legroom” because it often includes baggage for wedding clothes, and relative comfort especially for longer flights.
- Usually 1-2 days bookings for flights and accommodations, prior to the wedding itself, to allow for flight delays and long haul travel. And a return trip the day after the wedding to insure a full day for the ceremony if there are delays and no one feels rushed.
- Hotel or Airbnb accommodations that are clean and easy access to the wedding.
- A car rental or Ubers, depending on proximity of the accommodations to airports, hotel, and the wedding.
- Usually I don’t stay for wedding receptions. I will often stick around to say hello to people after the ceremony, but I prefer to let couples celebrate with their people, and for me to enjoy a quiet meal on my own.
- Any other associated fees, like basic resort fees if the wedding requires me to stay at a resort. Or other costs that may be associated with access or participation a particular wedding venue.
And while it may seem like a lot of details and costs, I can help by researching some of the parts, and making some of the arrangements, and I will give you an expected total prior to you making any commitment to work with me.
